European Commission publishes White Paper on Europe’s digital infrastructure – VTKE issues statement
At the end of February 2024, the European Commission has published the ´White Paper on how to master Europe’s digital infrastructure needs´. The White Paper analyses the main trends and challenges in the digital infrastructure sector in the EU.
The VTKE notes that the White Paper provides important impetus for concrete measures to create a robust, secure and sustainable digital infrastructure in Europe. The European Commission’s proposals can help to ensure that Europe can keep pace with global digital competition while meeting the needs of its citizens and businesses.
In its statement on the White Paper, the VTKE comments in particular on the future of European spectrum policy. In this context we consider it important to secure additional spectrum resources for wireless networks to meet the growing demands of modern telecommunications terminal equipment. Telecommunications terminal equipment needs more spectrum to cope with the increasing demand for higher data transfer rates, better network coverage and lower latency. We are therefore in favour of a fair distribution of frequencies in the upper 6 GHz band, from which Wi-Fi networks in particular must benefit.
