Croatian regulator HAKOM wants to anchor free terminal choice in a draft regulation – VTKE issues statement

In Croatia, a new Telecommunications Act was passed last year, which is now being concretised by further regulations. In this context, the national regulatory authority HAKOM is now consulting on the draft of “Rules on the method and conditions of performing the activity of electronic communication networks and services”, which among other things deals with the guarantee of free choice of terminal equipment.

The VTKE participated in the consultation of the draft regulation with a statement and welcomes in principle that HAKOM wants to anchor the free choice of telecommunication terminals in regulation. However, VTKE considers the addition of a binding and clear definition of the network termination point to be inevitably necessary in order to ensure complete, technology-neutral freedom of choice of terminal equipment directly at the broadband connection in Croatia.

Taking this addition into account, the Croatian regulation would create good conditions for the implementation of the European right to free choice of terminal equipment.
